Both come together to develop the custom automotive System-on-Chip for ADAS to meet the demands of automakers for increasing demand of safety, AI integration, reliability, and next-generation assisted driving systems.

What’s the MediaTek and DENSO Collaboration about?

The partnership between MediaTek and DENSO to co-develop a custom automotive SoC for the ADAS and in-vehicle cockpit systems. The partnership brings DENSO’s expertise in automotive-grade safety and MediaTek’s strength in developing high-performance SoCs.

Together, both will focus on developing production-ready solutions and meet the growing demand of the ADAS and AI-powered systems. The partnership combines MediaTek’s heterogeneous compute and AI capabilities with DENSO’s skills in automotive engineering.

The advanced SoC from this collaboration will meet the Tier-1 suppliers and global OEMs’ requirements. The partnership brings the MediaTek Dimensity AX platform that drives the AI technologies to support the cockpit system and expand the ADAS system.

What are the key pillars of this collaboration?

The partnership is built on the three key pillars that will enable the ADAS to be more efficient, smarter, and safer. Here are the three key pillars or strengths of the partnership between MediaTek and DENSO:

  • DENSO’s Automotive Grade Safety: The DENSO engineering expertise will help in a custom SoC that will meet the industry’s compliance, and the SoC targets ISO 26262, allowing the ASIL-B/D level safety levels.
  • AI computation: The MediaTek heterogeneous computing capabilities feature the NPU/AI accelerators and ISP system that offers superior performance to the automotive ADAS. This way, the MediaTek platform supports the multi-sensors, such as lidar, camera, rara, etc.
  • Design Quality: The joint efforts from the collaboration will deliver high quality and elevate time-to-market. The high system design quality comes with pre-validated components, reducing the errors of the chip, whereas the ready-to-use solutions will reduce the automaker’s efforts to design everything from the start.

What is the role of custom SoC for the automotive industry?

The custom SoC helps in many automotive applications, enhancing the vehicle’s performance and safety. Here’s why the SoCs are important for the automotive industry:

  • The custom SoC helps the automakers to integrate the ADAS function, connectivity, and infotainment in one single chip, and save a lot of money and space for the makers.
  • The custom SoC applies to ADAS, autonomous driving, in-cabin systems, central computing, and vehicle communication with other vehicles, networks, and infrastructure.
  • The custom SoC increases the durability and lifespan of the vehicles, hence automakers choose this to offer the best to the customers.
  • With the growing demand for AI-powered solutions for the cockpit or vehicle safety technologies, the custom SoC can help the makers in the smooth transition.

How does this partnership impact the industry?

The partnership between MediaTek and DENSO can impact the automotive industry in the following way:

  • The custom SoC market is valued at around $27billion in 2024, and it is projected to increase to $43,4 billion in the next five years, meaning the companies will benefit from this collaboration and automakers will have the custom SoC.
  • The demand for strong and efficient ADAS systems is increasing, and the development of the custom SoC will solve the bigger problem for the makers and save them time by starting everything from scratch.
  • The custom SoC will have everything in one chip that will help the automakers to innovate more, as they will have room for more technologies.
  • The custom SoC reduces the complexity of the ADAS and in-vehicle infotainment solutions and lowers the cost for the makers.
  • The custom SoC will enable the makers to integrate with future communication tech and advance the communication.

DENSO and MediaTek come together to provide an AI-powered automotive customization SoC to the industry and solve many problems for them, and meet the increasing demands of ADAS and AI-powered systems.
