RAM, the American Brand, will have its first-ever SUV in 2028. This is big for the brand as it is naturally known for its trucks and vans. The Stellantis CEO announced the RAM SUV during his briefing with Wall Street analysts.
RAM, which became a standalone brand in 2009 after its separation from Dodge, is already exploring the SUV segment. The brand is owned by Stellantis and is quite popular in the pick-up trucks segment.
The brand is bringing the new SUV with an internal combustion engine and the option of an extended EV power plant. There is not much on the expected RAM SUV, but based on the speculation, you can find expected details here.
RAM’s first SUV in 2028
Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa told the Wall Street Analysts that RAM will come up with their own SUV for the first time in 2028. The SUV will be built in Warren, Michigan, and engineered with the best team.
The move to enter the SUV segment is an effort of the company to explore and give a much more comprehensive product range. The RAM SUV will enter the market in the same year the Dakota mid-size pickup truck will enter the market.
Though the statement is not backed by the RAM, it aligns with Stellanti’s $13 billion investment for the next four years and $100 million injection into the Warren Truck Assembly Plant (the same facility that produced the Jeep Grand Wagoneer) for new SUVs.
RAM’s SUV Expected Specifications
Filosa has not revealed anything much about the RAM SUV except that there will be an SUV in 2028, so we don’t have any more information on its specifications. But based on the speculation and reports, here’s what specs you can expect from the RAM’s first-ever SUV:
- It will have two powertrains: a traditional gasoline engine and a range-extended electric vehicle that will boost the off-road performance.
- If it has a 3.6 litre Penstar V-6 engine battery pack, just like the Jeep Grand Wagoneer, it will have 500 miles of driving range. The power of the SUV can be around 647 hp and offers better performance, keeping its truck heritage.
- For the ICE, the RAM SUV can have a Hurricane 2.0-liter turbocharged I-4 engine producing 324 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque.
- The RAM SUV specs or built-in platform would depend on the Jeep Grand Wagoneer or can be the same as the 2026 model.
RAM’s SUV Expected Price
As there is no official confirmation from RAM or Stellantis, other than the CEO’s remark on RAM’s SUV in 2028, there is no information on price. However, based on the market value and its direct competition, we can expect the price to be in the range of $60,000 to $80,000.
The price depends on its variants, such as the base gasoline model can be the lowest, whereas the mid-range and high-end models will have higher prices.
Will we see it in India?
The RAM vehicle has never been seen or launched in the Indian market. Stellantis group, though, sells its Jeep and Citroen brand vehicles in the Indian market. If RAM SUV ever comes, it will be the first launch in the North American market.
For now, the SUV will be designed and tailored for the US buyers, so the launch in India is a distant dream. RAM trucks have not even launched in India, but seeing the SUV market in India, we can hope that one day, we can see it in India.
But to launch it in India or another country, the brand may have to align it or redesign it with the target customers’ interests or comply with the regulations of the region.
The new vehicle will offer new job opportunities for people in Ohio and Michigan, so let’s hope we will soon see RAM’s SUVs after seeing its majestic and durable trucks. The SUV will open a new door for the brand and expand its product range; however, it will be interesting to see the take of customers on SUV ICE or REEV vehicles from RAM.
